Abbas, Tuanku (Malayan)(c.1840) - brother to the rajah of Achin, active in South China Sea

Adorno, Giorgio (Italian)(d.1558) - Knight of Malta, served as Captain General of the Galleys for the knights

Alday, James (English)(c.1540) - preyed on Spanish and Portuguese ships

Alessandri, Vincenzo (Unknown)(d.1657) - Knight of Malta, captured and enslaved

Aleyn, William (English)(c.1432-1448) - active around English Channel and French coast

Alfhild [Alwilda, Alvild] (Goth)(c.800) portrait - a princess from southern Sweden in a time of the Vikings, she went to sea with an all woman crew to avoid marriage to Danish prince Alf (the portrait is the one circulated in all of the books, but is hardly an accurate portrait as it features what was a 9th century Valkyrie dressed in Victorian garb with a cannon as a background)

Allen, Richard (English)(d.1572) - a young sailor that died along with John Drake of wounds received while attacking a passing frigate

Allison, Robert (English)(c.1679) - sailed with Bartholomew Sharp, helped sack Portobello

Alvel, Nicholas (English)(c.1603) - active in the Ionian Sea

Andrieszoon, Michiel [Bréha] (Dutch)(c.1683) - pirate captain associated with Thomas Paine and Laurens de Graf

Ango, Jean (French)(d.1551) - merchant, pirate and pirate sponsor, active against the Spanish, Portuguese and English

Angria, Conajee (Indian)(d.1729) - preyed on British shipping in and around India, the British East India company paid for peace rather than fight his forces

Angria, Sumbhajee (Indian)(d.1743) - son of Conajee, continued raiding British shipping after his father death

Angria, Toolajee (Indian)(c.1750) - half brother to Sumbhajee

Ansell, John (English)(c.1689) - helped Henry Morgan raid Maracaibo

Anstis, Thomas (British)(d.1723) -

Apoo, Chui (Chinese)(d.1851) - lieutenant under pirate chief Shap'n'gtzai

Aragona, Ferdinando D' (Italian)(c.1600) - active in Mediterranean against Venetians

Archembeau (French)(c.1681) - William Dampier was not impressed by this pirate's crew

Archer, John Rose (English)(d.1724) - sailed with Edward Teach and John Phillips

Arnold, Richard (English)(c.1685) - sailed with Edward Davis and Peter Harris

Assanti, Ligorio (Italian)(c.1341) - abused his standing among the Knights of Rhodes

Assia, Frederico Langravio D' (Unknown)(c.1640) - Knight of Malta, served as Captain General of the Galleys

Atkinson, Clinton (English)(d.1583) - active off the western coast of Europe, hanged in 1853

Auger, M.A. (Unknown)(c.1679) - Knight of Malta, expelled for failing to report his spoils

Auger, John (British)(d.1718) - pardoned by Woodes Rogers, he reverted back to piracy, captured by Benjamin Hornigold and hanged on New Providence

Avery, John; [Long Ben Avery] (Unknown)(c.1692-1695) - see Every, Henry

Axe, Samuel (English)(c.1629-1645) - active in the Caribbean against the Spanish

Aylett, Captain (English)(d.1669) - died when Henry Morgan's ship exploded
