JA B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y ZJackman (British)(c.1664) - worked with Chritopher Myngs and Henry Morgan Jackson, William (English)(c.1640) - raided numerous Spanish colonies in the Caribbean, exposing their inherent weakness, influencing further raiders James, Michael (English)(c.1545) - recorded as raiding Flemish and Spanish shipping in the Atlantic, probably near Ireland Janssen [Jansz], Jan (Dutch)(c.1600) - raided Spanish before turning on all shipping, captured and converted to Islam in 1618, captured Raykjavik, Iceland in 1627, ended up as governor of Oualidia Jeffrey, Robert (British)(c.1807) - a Cornish blacksmith, served on a privateer, pressed into service from that ship into the Recruit while in Falmouth, commanded by Lake, later marooned on Sombrero in the West Indies, for stealing rum and beer Jenkins, William (English)(c.1696) - age 14, apprenticed to chief mate, George Bollen, with William Kidd Jennings, Henry (English)(c.1715-1717) - sailing from Jamaica, raided Spanish and French shipping, accepted pardon in 1717 Jol, Cornelis (Dutch)(d.1641) - raided Spanish in the Caribbean, lost a leg when younger, much feared by the Spanish who named him el Pirata; died of disease near Soa Thome in West Africa Joliffe, Edward (English)(c.1600) - operated in Irish waters Jones, David (English)(c.1634) - sailed with William Cobb in the Red Sea area Jones, Evan (Unknown)(c.1699) - captain of Beckford Galley, captured and looted the Prophet Daniel and gave it to Abraham Samuel Jones, John Paul (American)(1747-1792) - joined Continental navy in 1775, raided British coast, thought of as pirate by British, famous for responding to British call for surrender with 'I have not yet begun to fight' during battle between Jones' converted merchant, Bonne Homme Richard, and the British frigate, Serapis Jones, Joseph (English)(c.1696) - sail in the Indian ocean on the Pelican Juvara, Carlo (Maltese)(c.1661) - operated in the Mediterranean | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
