Rais, Turgut [Dragut] (Unknown)(d.1565) - Barbary corsair, known as a brave fighter

Rance, James (English)(c.1572) - brief association with Francis Drake and John Hawkins prior to the battle at San Juan de Ulua, then again with Drake in 1572

Read, Mary (English)(c.1685-1721) - female pirate, worked with John Rackham and Anne Bonny

Read, William (English)(c.1700) - commanded a ship that picked up Thomas White, stranded with natives on Madagascar

Ringnose, Basil (Unknown)(c.1653-1686) - surgeon, sailed with Bartholomew Sharp in 1680-1682, made maps of Pacific coast of South America

Roberts, Bartholomew [John] [Black Bart] (Welsh)(1682-1722) portrait flag - captured as many as 400 ships, possibly the inspiration for the Dread Pirate Roberts from Princess Bride fame

Rodrigo, Peter (Unknown)(c.1675) - raided French settlements in Canada

Rogers, Woodes (English)(b.1679?-d.1732) - privateer, made governor of New Providence in Bahamas, died July 16, 1732, Nassau, Bahamas

Roper, Richard (Unknown)(c.1699) - sailed with William Kidd, apprehended by Captain Mathew Lowth with £400

Rose, Jean (French)(c.1681) -
